Spend the weekend away together and experience the unique opportunity to sample the art of falconry in panoramic paradise. Viewing these magnificent birds up close is a real treat and something you won't forget. Nothing beats the thrill of seeing a hawk flying free and returning to your gloved fist.
Established in 1608 and situated in the beautiful Vale of Avoca overlooking the Aughrim River, the hotel in which you'll be staying is the oldest in Ireland. It features 23 spacious and comfortable ensuite bedrooms, nine of which have their own balconies overlooking some of the most spectacular scenery in Ireland. From appetisers to desserts, the hotel's restaurant offers a sophisticated and refined menu from an award-winning head chef and the house has an excellent wine cellar featuring a wide range of vintages from all over the world.
This break includes two nights bed and breakfast, one evening meal, the falconry experience and a packed lunch. The falconry experience begins at 9.30am with a morning session in the hotel where you'll receive an overview of the art of falconry. The topics covered include a brief history of falconry, the techniques involved, and types of birds used.
At 12:30pm you're then transported from the hotel, where you'll enjoy a packed lunch and be introduced to the birds. In this outdoor, afternoon session you'll have the chance to fly the birds using the techniques learned earlier in the day and will be shown basic handling, how to train birds and to fly birds free. The afternoon session ends at 4.30pm at which time you will be returned to the hotel.
