On a tandem skydive you are secured to an instructor and skydive from approximately 10,000 feet. The moment of truth arrives all too fast, as your tandem master shouts in your ear "Are you ready to skydive?" You will leave the aircraft with your heart thumping. Here goes! The wind rushes past you as you plummet ground-ward accelerating to 'terminal velocity', a speed of 130mph. Approximately 45 seconds after 'exit' at an altitude of 5000ft a giant canopy made for two will be opened. The tandem master will be delighted to give you the opportunity to steer the canopy for most of your flight.
You arrive at the drop zone on the day of your skydive and are given about one hour's training. This is operated on a waiting list system, so first come first served. When it's your turn, you put on your jumpsuit and are given a final briefing. You'll learn about the harness that attaches you to your highly experienced tandem master and will be briefed on what will happen through all phases of your jump.
Boarding the plane, you will be harnessed securely to an experienced qualified tandem master. The time to reach an altitude of 10,000 feet will take about 20 minutes. Your instructor will have you carry out the simple drills you were taught on the ground. All too soon the Tandem Canopy is deployed and your tandem master will skillfully fly you back to the landing area.
You can expect to fly anytime from 09:30 to 15:00 depending on weather conditions.
